Lesson 1. How to hide all your AV goodies where they can't be seen ? Answer : In a fake fireplace, of course...

Click on a picture for a closer view.

The fake fireplace in the Lounge. Here, all the AV equipment resides, with it's own network and power connections.

Speakers cables run underneath the floor the the 5 points of the room to each speaker.

There is door access to each side, and the mirror at the front hinges outwards. The doors are nice and flush, with very small wooden plugs with metal ends to open.

Bottom half. To the left is the network point, and the 2nd line for the DSL connection (connected to the silver router).
Equipment :
  • GameCube with wireless "WaveBird" controllers.
  • Toshiba VCR (collecting dust - who uses tapes these days ?)
  • Sky+ with upgraded hard disk
  • Pioneer DVD717 MultiRegion the old workhorse.

  • Top half. The heavy stuff is in the middle, and the mirror hinges open to get them in and out (this was to reduce the depth of the fireplace structure to a minimum).
    Equipment :
  • Rio Receiver MP3 over your network
  • Yamaha RF Bitstream converter for LaserDisc AC3 - only gets used these days for the 5.1 versions of StarWars (not available on DVD)
  • Sony DA50ES AV Receiver
  • Pioneer LaserDisc Player
